Design Iterations

This portfolio has been redesigned from scratch several times since the first commit in 2022. Every one of those designs has been rebuilt as a theme you can put back on — same markup, same copy, same projects, wearing the skin of the day it shipped.

4 iterations currently: Terminal / IDE Brutalist

Picking a design stores it in a cookie on this device and applies it to every page. Nothing is sent anywhere. Liquid Glass and the terminal design are drawn for both light and dark; the two older skins open dark, because dark is all they ever were. The toggle works inside every one of them and remembers your choice per design.

2026-08-30 “Add a Liquid Glass design and make it the main one”

Liquid Glass

Translucent layers that bend the light behind them as you move.

The newest iteration, and the one to switch to for something softer. Every surface is a thin wash of glass over a live light field — blurred, pushed in saturation, lit along its top edge. On a desktop the field parallaxes against the pointer and a soft light source rides beneath the content, so what each panel refracts keeps changing as you move. Drawn for both light and dark.

2026-07-14 “Redesign site as terminal/IDE brutalist, share one design system”

Terminal / IDE Brutalist

Square corners, a status bar, and a shell that types itself.

The site as it stands. Everything is a panel with a 1px border and zero radius, JetBrains Mono carries the chrome, and a vim-style status bar tracks the section you are reading. The first iteration built as a shared design system rather than one page of markup.

Glassmorphism

Frosted slate cards floating over drifting colour blobs.

The move off Nuxt and onto a single PHP file. Blue, violet and emerald blobs drift behind blurred slate panels, everything is generously rounded, and sections fade up as you scroll. Refined through to May 2026 without changing the palette.

Raisin Black

MARCUS LOO in 7xl green, dead centre, one screen per section.

The look the portfolio wore longest, from the first commit in 2022 through the Nuxt years, shown here in its final component-era form. Raisin black and Go Green, a centred wall of type, and calls to action as fully rounded outline pills that lift and scale on hover.
